Good afternoon, friends of the SPCA of Luzerne County,

We are delighted to inform you that we have successfully acquired the former Dundee Gardens property (2407 Sans Souci Pkwy, Hanover) with the purpose of expanding and enhancing our shelter facilities to better serve the needs of our community.

As you are aware, our shelter has functioned as a sanctuary for thousands of dogs, cats, small animals, and, on occasion, other animals outside our typical intake categories. The SPCA of Luzerne County is committed to uplifting our community through compassion, comfort, and care for domestic companion animals via education, advocacy, protection, a comprehensive shelter and adoption program.

Over the years, our facility has been a dependable source of comfort for each animal that has entered our doors. While we have made considerable advancements in addressing issues such as overpopulation and advocating against cruelty and abuse, we have faced challenges due to the aging infrastructure of our building.

Our plan involves designing a shelter that operates more effectively and efficiently, with increased capacity to care for animals in need and to provide stimulation for those awaiting permanent homes. A key aspect of this initiative is to engage the community by creating a space where individuals can interact with the animals we serve, become involved in our mission, and volunteer for a cause that resonates deeply with all stakeholders.

While this development is indeed positive, it is essential to acknowledge that, as in our past endeavors, we cannot achieve our goals without the generosity of our community. We invite you to participate in this significant undertaking and assist us in transforming our vision into reality. Every contribution from our donors will play a crucial role in establishing a pathway from homelessness to companionship for animals in need.

In conclusion, we extend our sincere gratitude to the Mericle team, Hanover Township, our Board of Directors and to everyone whose unwavering support and guidance have been instrumental in bringing this aspiration to fruition. Their continuous assistance and strategic counsel have been vital to the facilitation of this acquisition.

Thank you for your attention and continued support. Todd Hevner,

Executive Director SPCA of Luzerne County
